Silver Salmon Fishing Trips

Full Day Silver Salmon Kenai River

Available August 15th – September 30th

Be up early for a sunrise launch in your pursuit for silver salmon. We typically use spinning rods to cast lures to the bank. Silvers are known for being fun to target, as you can take advantage of their aggression toward all things shiny and flashy. They will often chase down a lure all the way to the boat. Backtrolling, jigging, and drifting eggs under a float are options at certain times. Silvers put up a great fight when hooked and are delicious. You will cover some different areas of water, targeting eddies and slow current areas where the silvers tend to hang out. We can also target silvers on the fly, by stripping or swinging flashy streamers. For fly fishing enthusiasts, fighting a 10-15 pound dime-bright salmon on a fly rod is unforgettable.

Fly fishing for Silvers

Silvers on the fly are a huge draw for Alaska fly fishing. Targeting silvers is usually easier if you have some prior fly fishing experience. You will have a more productive day of fishing if you can reliably cast 30 feet from the boat with some accuracy. Precise presentations are not strictly required. We will fish with 8wt rods and sink tip fly lines to cast streamers into eddies and softer current along the banks, where the silvers are known to hold up. Sometimes, you can see vague outlines of the fish to know roughly where they are, but the glacial water gives the fish (and the angler) some cover.

Available August 15th – September 30th

On this combo day, prepare for a gorgeous early morning boat ride, and make your first casts as the sun rises. Covering lots of water, you will cast and retrieve spinners trying to trigger aggressive bites from the ever so tasty silver salmon. The sounds of peeling drag and a hard fought battle reward the challenge of these fish. After limiting or tapping out on your silver salmon chase, you will turn your attention to the Kenai’s famous rainbow trout and dolly varden, and spend the latter part of your day concentrated on finding that trophy rainbow in this amazing catch and release fishery. Your guide will do their best to tailor your trip to exactly what you are looking for. If you want to focus on one species over another, don’t be afraid to express that to your guide, as it may influence the area you fish.
